Moreover, the U.S. Space Foundation (USSF) and the Space Commands at AFB have put forward many proposals for future space-related projects, which will greatly improve the current employment status of the city.

Today, Colorado Springs is one of the top tourist destinations in the U.S. In 1999, tourism accounted for nearly 5.2% of total employment. In the next two years, it grew at a rate of 2.7%. The hotel and casino industry also plays a vital role in providing quality employment opportunities.

Some of the major employers in Colorado Springs are Memorial Hospital, Penrose-St. Francis Health Services, Amtel and Intel (chip fabrication), Colorado Springs School District, and Schriever AFB.
